V for Vendetta Costume Womens Guy Fawkes
A women's V for Vendetta costume makes the perfect dark and edgy, modern Guy Fawkes look for Halloween. I enjoyed dressing in a DIY female version of this costume last year to go Trick or Treating in.
A female V for Vendetta costume is not hard to achieve. You can buy a ready-made outfit which will save you time. It is also pretty easy to get the look if you already have plenty of black in your closet.
Since I've already nailed this look, let me show you how to put this whole Guy Fawkes/Vendetta look together. You'll see just how quick and easy it is once you know what items make the whole costume perfect.

V for Vendetta as a story is loosely based on a futuristic and dystopian idea of the historical character of Guy Fawkes. A vigilante known as V played by Hugo Weaving and his female companion Evey, played by Natalie Portman, fight against the oppressive system.

A lot of the women's V for Vendetta costumes are quite sexy looking. You can go along that route with a shorter skirt and low cut top but I chose not to as I just wanted a female look for the V character.
This is the standard women's V for Vendetta costume that you can get. It normally comes with a black dress, cape, boot tops, gloves, belt and hat. It looks fine but you can opt for a more unique look by putting together individual elements yourself.
Personally, I wanted to rock the Vendetta style with one of those very cool masks so I knew I was going down the DIY route of putting together my own look. Here's how to get a real V style.
1: The Must-Have Guy Fawkes Mask Costume Accessory

Surely one of the best parts about dressing up V for Vendetta style is to wear one of these cool masks. The standard Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask is a white one but why choose a standard one if you're putting together your own look?
I decided that I wanted an all-black costume for Halloween so I had to have an appropriate black Vendetta mask to match. You can get all kinds of masks since they have been made super popular by the Anonymous group. Look out for special light-up versions and metallic ones in gold and silver shades.
Since the Vendetta mask really can make your complete costume, I think it is worth getting a mask that is different to the everyday white style which you see so often. You can really stand out from the crowd with more of a unique look.
2: The Black Hat and Hair Style Options

The movie version of the Vendetta hat is more like a Spanish or Fedora style of hat. An actual historical version of a Guy Fawkes hat would be taller and more conical in style.
I happened to have a black canvas hat already so wasn't going to buy a new one. In line with a modern look, you should look for a black, flat-top hat. You can get a Spanish style black hat here on Amazon.com and also here on Amazon.co.uk.
I did think about getting hold of a long, black hair wig to complete the all-black costume look. However, I felt nearer the time that wearing my own hair down loose would look better than a wig. With a hat on your head, you could also slick long hair back into a low ponytail or bun.
Just be aware that wearing a hat will likely mess your hair up and it could look a real fright if you need to remove the hat at some point. Since I was going out Trick or Treating, I had my hat on to keep my head warm all evening!
3: A Black Costume Cape or Cloak
A black cloak or cape isn't a totally necessary feature of a V for Vendetta women's costume but c'mon! It's Halloween! Why wouldn't you want to top off your look with a long and flowing black cloak trailing out behind you as you walk.
I opted for an inexpensive, black velvet style cloak. The look of velvet fabric looks richer and more expensive than a plain cotton or polyester. You can get a heavy wool cloak but that would be expensive.
Mine didn't have a hood although I do think the hooded versions look cooler but it isn't necessary since you should be wearing the hat. So you would have to have the hood hanging down your back anyway. If you're outside in costume, a cloak should help to keep you warmer too.
4: Belt With 6 Costume Daggers or Black Sash
Another item or accessory is a black belt that contains 6 plastic daggers on it. The standard official costume accessory that you can buy doesn't look great.
If I was sold on having this accessory, I would rather make my own to wear or buy custom ones as above. In the end, I opted for a stylish looking silk black sash worn around my waist.
5: Black Clothing Including Gloves
Most women have black clothes hanging in their closet. You can pick a black dress, pants and top or a skirt and top as I did. A sexier look would be to opt for a shorter black dress or low cut top and tight fitting black pants.
As a forty-something mom going out for a family Trick or Treating, I really wasn't going for the sexy look so I opted for a very long black skirt which had more of a witch, Halloween feel about it.
Black gloves really add to the style of a V costume, bare hands just don't look right. The most stylish pair of gloves to work with this costume, would be a pair of leather look black gloves that will add to the dark and edgy style.
6: Black Boots to Step Out in Style

With a lot of the female V for Vendetta costumes, you will see long black boots being worn to complete the look of the outfit. I opted for these leather-style boots that also happened to be comfy for lots of walking.
Boots like these long ones will work with tight-fitting black pants underneath, with a very long or a short skirt or dress. They won't work with wide pants or trousers. So you'd have to rock some black shoes instead.
My Finished V for Vendetta Women's Costume for Halloween

This is the finished V for Vendetta women's costume that I put together for Halloween. You can see that I am dressed almost from top to toe in black.
This is a very easy look to throw together last minute since you are likely to have most of the costume items already except perhaps for the Guy Fawkes mask and hat. I enjoyed wearing this on October 31st and I was kept nice and warm with all the layers.
